Essay on Ethical Perspectives - 1301 Words

Ethical Perspectives Organizational Issues ETH/316 11/28/2012 Ethical Perspectives It is evident that Wal-Mart’s ethical perspective or moral view is contingent on profit or profit potential. The global labor force of Wal-Mart enables this retail giant to continue to grow and succeed by providing lower operating costs. The legal ethics of this company are asserted globally and would withstand scrutiny in most cases. However, the virtue ethics of Wal-Mart are questionable about the well-being of their employees, specifically the hourly employees. Wal-Mart is targeted by its own labor force in the United States and in China as well. In the United States, Wal-Mart operates on the brink of ethics by using its legal stature to suppress†¦show more content†¦20-23). A number of labor union groups have created organizations and Internet web pages to expose the unfair labor practices of Wal-Mart and persuade public opinion. These groups include Wake Up Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart Watch, and OUR Wal-Mart (Massey, 2011, p. 1-23). Workers at Wal-Mart claim that chain u ses â€Å"illegal bullying tactics† in its efforts to muffle those who speak out against the company’s treatment of its workers. The members of these groups have not achieved the goal of unionizing but the effect of the negative publicity has been a burden for Wal-Mart. In October 2012, Related Companies announced that it was signing a lease on its Gateway II development with Shop-Rite and not Wal-Mart. The commercial real estate company denying the ubiquitous big-box retailer a spot in its East New York development drew praise from a variety of public officials, activists, and local business owners (Johnson, 2012, p. 1-36). This is evidence that the labor union groups are making some headway in influencing the public opinion about Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart Culture in China â€Å"Chinese workers pay for Wal-Mart’s low prices† (Goodman, 2011, p. 2). Unlike the culture in the United States, workers in China are allowed to organize and form labor unions. Even still, Wal-Mart is a repeat violator of pay laws and currently is involved in legal proceedings around China. There are more than 80 lawsuits claiming that workers were instructed to work overtime and bypassShow MoreRelatedA Look at Ethical Perspectives Essay example1150 Words   |  5 PagesA Look at Ethical Perspectives While it would be nice to think that it is easy to make decisions and all come to the same conclusion, this is not always the case. There are a lot of famous stories around the world but there are two stories of the most interested stories that people want to compare with, they are The dolls house and The devoted friend. The doll s house, it was written by written by a famous author, Katharine Mansfield. And The Devoted Friend is a famous story by Oscar Wilde. Why these stories are interested ? Handgun Control in the United States Essay Example For Students

Handgun Control in the United States Essay OutlineThesis: Handguns should be outlawed with the exception of law enforcementpurposes. I. Why Not Real Gun Control?A. Handguns are too easily accessible to Americas youth. II. Kids: A Deadly Force. A. Kids are killing each other all across America. III. A Look At The Brady Bill IV. The Economics of Crime. A. Americans are spending too much money each year to protectthemselves. V. Charts and Figures. A. Where Americans are spending all their money on protection. Handguns should be outlawed in the United States with the exception oflaw enforcement purposes. Two weeks before Christmas Day, 1987, 17 year-oldKendall Merriweather was shot and killed a few blocks from his high school insoutheast Washington, D.C. Police arrested two teenage students who theybelieve killed Merriweather while trying to steal his boom box radio. A fewdays earlier, in Pasadena, Texas, a 14-year-old eight grader at Deepwater JuniorHigh School whipped a snub-nosed .38 out of his jacket and held the assistantprincipal hostage for two hours. Police said the boy was distraught over hisparents recent separation. (Stanza 19) These were not isolated incidents. Allacross America, the number of kids using- and being harmed by-guns is rising atan alarming rate. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, more than 27,000youths between 12 and 15 were handgun victims in 1985, up from an average of16,500 for each of the previous years (Stanza 19). The increase in gun useoften stems from urban crack trade. Many crack gangs have more firepower thana small police department. Whatever the cause, authorities are finding the useof handguns by youngsters an extremely diff-icult trend to stop ( Stanza 19). As long as pistols are as easily accessible as candy, people of all ages willcontinue to be on both ends of the barrel. Kids in America have reached a new level of criminal violence that seemslinked to the nations ever-expanding arsenal of handguns. Guns are everywhere, and they are being used in increasingly horrific ways (Morganthau 33). According to Thomas Morganthau, author of Why Not Real Gun Controll?, in America, firearms kill more people between the ages of 15 and 24 than do all naturalcauses combined. According to a survey taken in 1993, gun deaths, includingsuicides, now total more than 37,000 a year, and handgun homicides have reached13,000 a year. The big question that everyone is asking now, is What should we do aboutthis?. The answer outraged voters say in poll after poll, is to pass morerestrictive laws to control handguns. This mood is moving a reluctant Congresstoward renewed consideration of the Brady Bill, named after Jim Brady, who waspermanently disabled in John Hickneys attempt to assassin-ate Ronald Regan in1981 ( Morganthau 33). The Brady Bill is a common sensical and an ad-mittedlymodest attempt to impose a five-day waiting period for the purchase of handguns, and to require local police agencies to make a reasonable effort to ensurethat the buyer does not have a criminal record (Morganthau 34). But the billrests on a largely unsupported assumption that the combination of a waitingperiod and police background checks will somehow reduce handgun crime. Thereis no real proof of this, because of the simple fact that background checkscannot catch crime-minded wanna-bes who do not have records yet (Morganthau34). Handgun Control Inc., the lobbying group that is the prime backer for theBrady bill, contends that the bill will work and that it is only a first steptoward a sensible national gun-control policy that need not include anoutright ban on handguns or some form of licensing for gun owners (Morganthau34). The real problem, according to President Bill Clinton, is handguns, whichare easily concealed and widely available on the street. But no one thinksCongress will be able to conquer its fear of the National Rifle Association todo anything much about limiting handgun sales any time soon. And that, in allprobability, means Americas tragic obsession with lethal weaponry willcontinue for years to come ( Morganthau 34). .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e , .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e .postImageUrl , .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e , .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e:hover , .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e:visited , .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e:active { border:0!important; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e:active , .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ud153e22b1883490330bcc00193b4712e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The city of spain EssayThe cost of crime in America is adding up at a surprisingly quick rate. What to Do with One Million Dollars free essay sample

One million dollars has a lot of potential and would change one persons or multiple peoples lives in a diverse amount of ways. Many people that do have that much money abuse it. I believe they spend their millions in wrong and irresponsible ways; many celebrities spend their riches on material items for themselves to make their own public image as a wealthy person by buying houses, cars, and designer items that the normal working class citizen could not afford. If I were somehow able to miraculously get ahold of a million dollars, I would try to make the world a better place with it. Children are the seeds of the future. With all of the education budget cuts, foster homes, orphanages, poverty, and other issues that children are helpless to, they tend to get the short end of the stick in their lives which, in turn, could, and probably will, hurt their future and as a result, societys future in a major way. We will write a custom essay sample on What to Do with One Million Dollars or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page With a million dollars, I would either donate to schools that are in low-budget neighborhoods or non-profit organizations such as Saint Judes Ranch that try and better childrens lives and futures. Even 500,000 dollars could go a long way for a school especially when they are facing poverty problems. Nowadays, schools can barely even afford to provide teachers with supplies to educate their students; most teachers have to provide their own white board markers, crayons, colored pencils, paper, etc. Not only are the children suffering these budget cuts at an elementary level, but its also occurring at a university level where people are trying to become something and have a career. All people are suffering from these selfish cuts the government has bestowed on us; education is the beginning of a well-functioning society and all the education funds are being taken away to provide more for people who dont want to work and are thriving off of welfare or the governments war funds. With $100,000,000, a school could provide students with the necessary tools and supplies to educate children such as computers or calculators, or other things that they werent able to afford before. Societys youth is crucial as to how it will function later on. Even if it only helps out 100 kids, the future will just be that much brighter for us all. Some children are born into incredible families that love them unconditionally and have parents that would give the world for them; thats how it should be and its sad that not all children are able to have the opportunity to have a loving family like that. For the ones that were born into a troublesome life such as having parents that are drug-addicts, abusers, criminals, cheaters, teenagers, etc. , and can not support their childrenfor God only knows whysince children are supposed to be number one in every parents eyes no matter their circumstancethere are places for these kids to go where they are able to have a better opportunity out of life rather than just having their parents throw their lives away from their own mistakes. Personally, I have donated to Saint Judes Orphanage Ranch in Boulder City; my government class raised 5,000 dollars during my senior year and at the end of the year we went to The Ranch and gave them the money, which they were highly thankful for. Everybody in my class had the chance to see what these kids actually undergo. Its truly heartbreaking to know what these young people all under the age of 18 are basically going through an endless cycle of depression and hurt. The ranch is a non-profit organization that is completely devoted to these kids that are in emotional and sometimes physical need. The Ranch personnel really put their heart and soul into these children who have nobody there for them. For example, they have a building for girls who have been abandoned by their parents due to their pregnancy or havent had their parents throughout their lives which caused them to fall into the life that they have. At the ranch, they watch them and help them take care of the babies while these young mothers can go to school and work to become adults. Every dime that Saint Judes raises and receives goes to the kids happiness and well-being. If I had a million dollars to donate, I would highly consider donating to Saint Judes; they really give everything they possibly can to the kids and its really important to them that they still have hope for happiness and that they still mean something to the world. With the money, they would be able to build more homes for these orphans and kids who really need someone and a reason to smile. As much as they help these kids at their facility, there are still more children out there who need help and have nobody to go to. With a bigger facility, theres more opportunity to better more peoples lives starting with their childhood. I believe that a million dollars could make a huge difference in childrens lives more than any other age group in the world. Sadly, a million dollars cant fix all of the problems in the world that were facing. For some reason, the American youth is the last thing on the governments mind, hence why our society is quickly spiraling out of even their control. I believe that if they were to take a step back to see whats actually going on and care more about where our issues stem, which I think is in children, we would definitely not see the issues we do in this day and age. The government is more worried about whats in other countries rather than whats in our own backyard. If my million dollars could make a difference in childrens lives, I would jump on that opportunity in a heartbeat.

The Eyes Of An Author essays

The Eyes Of An Author essays As a comparison of both content and the corresponding ways in which both Davis and McNeil fit within the historical paradigm  ¡Ã‚ °Liberalism versus Political Economy ¡ this paper will examine both the viewpoint from which each author writes from, and also build a critical analysis using a common theme from both  ¡Ã‚ °something new under the sun, ¡ and  ¡Ã‚ °Let Victorian Holocausts. ¡ The common theme from each book to be examined will be  ¡Ã‚ °Water ¡ and how water has been exploited by both Liberalistic governments and to exactly the same extent by governments based on Marxism. McNeil ¡Ã‚ ¯s chapter six and Davis ¡Ã‚ ¯s chapter seven will represent the focal points of this paper. Water exploitation in various forms has been crucial in the rise of Western society. It is with this key point in mind that this comparison and corresponding critical analysis will be written. There can be little doubt that the environment has been a critical part of both Liberal history and Political Economy. It is also true that both McNeil and Davis have recognized the political gains available to those with control over the environment. Certainly each author makes the argument that the governments most adept at this environmental exploitation will be the government with the most influence over not only the people within it own borders, but over people in other countries, which governments look to influence. The fundamental differences in the ways that both Davis, and McNeil explore this exploitation, is severe. Davis writes from the standpoint of Political Economy, he is extremely critical of the Imperialistic British governments systematic exploitation of its colonies people. He is passionate about the way the Crown has throughout history taken advantage of the working class by gaining the favor of the elite in each of its colonies. Davis is detailed in his writing about the British Utilitarian needs, and the ways in...

Potato Osmosis Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Potato Osmosis - Assignment Example The researcher states that even the simplest unicellular protozoan needs to communicate with the external environment for survival because it needs to ingest food, eliminate waste products and toxins of metabolism and exchange gases through respiratory mechanisms. This communication is further developed in a more intricate manner in the multicellular organisms where exchanges take place within and between the cells in carrying out their assigned physiological functions. All cells are bound on the outside by a limiting membrane akin to a boundary wall which separates and protects the cellular components from the external environment. This membrane is known as the cell wall and the plasma membrane in plants and animals respectively. This membrane is a specialized component which selectively permits passage of water and other components across it either inward or outward depending upon the gradient of the fluid environment and internal contents or due to selectivity for particular molec ules through specialized pores or channels. Two of the processes by which such exchanges take place are known as diffusion and osmosis. Diffusion is simply the movement of molecules from a region of higher concentration to a lower concentration (intranet.landmark.edu). Diffusion occurs within a single compartment or environment where molecules move from a region of higher concentration to a lower concentration until equilibrium is reached. Such diffusive activity can take place inside a single cell. Osmosis too is also a movement of components within a solution either from a higher gradient to a lower one or selectively under active transport systems controlled by cellular physiology, but this diffusion occurs across a semi-permeable membrane such as the plant cell wall or the animal plasma membrane. The plant or the animal cell walls are selectively permeable for certain molecules and do not allow other molecules to pass through them.

Thematic Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Thematic Analysis - Essay Example According to the original story, Charlie’s father had lost his job as a result of automation and mechanization. Wonka’s motivation in getting the Oompa-Loompas work for his factory could be cost reduction. The way the Oompa-Loompas are portrayed makes them no different from slaves. They are like commodities, without any intellect, individuality or demands. They are content with cacao beans and do not mind being experimented on. In fact, there is little distinction between man and machine inside this wonderful chocolate factory (Lucas 208). Dark-skinned pygmies change to knee-high dwarves and their homeland shifts from Africa to Loompaland due to a public outcry. The capitalist wants someone like ‘him’ to inherit the empire. So he asks Charlie to leave the family behind. The Wonka-Charlie equation is much like the owner-worker equation. From this angle, one of the major differences between Mel Stuart’s ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory†™ (1971) and Tim Burton’s ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ (2005) is Charlie’s reaction to Wonka’s offer at the end. In the former, Charlie very gladly and readily accepts the ‘special gift’ but in the latter, interestingly, Charlie declines the offer saying that his family is his top priority. Wonka comes round to Charlie’s viewpoint. ... One wonders as to what qualities of Charlie go into making him the hero of the story. Probably to fill this gap, Mel Stuart’s film adds the episode of Slugworth trying to lure Charlie, when he finds the golden ticket. Otherwise, Charlie is a hero by default. The most positive thing about him is that he has few or no negatives. Being poor, meek and polite seems to be sufficient for one to taste great success in life (Frey 4). That amounts to selling dreams to the common man. Wonka’s idea of the golden ticket contest is a universal business strategy to this day. Ethically such campaigns cannot be endorsed because they play on people’s greed for quick money. But that is how Charlie’s journey to riches begins and that too with a coin found in the gutter. Certainly, Wonka would not have got rich that way. Instead of encouraging the value of knowledge, planning and diligence, the story appears to overemphasize the role of luck. In this aspect again, we see a var iation between the two films. In the 1971 adaptation, Charlie is tempted to steal a swig of a Fizzy Lifting Drink and has to expiate later. The indication is that a member of the workers class can never be so honest as to meet the expectations of Wonka’s sophisticated class. He is bound to slip. The 2005 version, however, makes no mention of this episode. Till the end of the story, Charlie makes no mistakes and does not have to be ‘excused’. On the contrary, it is Wonka who realizes the defect in his own viewpoint which made him believe that family and business are incompatible. This difference is suggestive of a U-turn in attitude within the three-decade-plus time gap between the two films. The way the four naughty children get their punishments

Gay Rights Essay Essay Aubri Lutz La/Lit Per. 4 Miss Gibbs 10/22/01 Should Homosexual Clubs Be Allowed On College Campus? Do you plan on attending college? College offers a plethora of opportunities to those who choose to attend. There is horseback riding club, chess club and even Pokemon club these days. However, if a person hopes to join a club based on his or her sexual preference, think again. They are not allowed on public school campuses. It is a good idea that homosexual clubs and organizations be censored. They are offensive and inappropriate. If people try to ban clubs in college based on homosexual preference, they will be closing out many other clubs to come. For example, according to the Bible study groups, The banning of homosexual clubs is a good idea, but not a logical one. It is a step backwards for our bible study clubs, it will only cause them to lash out and close down our groups, too (www.family.org). For every club out there based on sexual preference there are one hundred clubs that focus on bible study. Since bible study clubs are just as controversial as homosexual ones, they are worried that if the banning of those clubs happens, they will be next. To empower school officials to close down and ban clubs based on homosexual preference is a marvelous thought, but it empowers them to shut down appropriate clubs like the bible study groups. In addition, the Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered group, also the LGBT has said that, Any club/organization or school discrimination against homosexual clubs and organizations will lose funding, travel funds, meeting place and right to have a club on campus immediately (www.leaderu.com//marco). This is a comfort to the clubs of homosexuals because their rights on campuses are protected. Conversely, it is a discomfort to the clubs who do not support their ideas and ways of thinking because now they are forced to at least pretend to be supportive of those clubs. This is not sensitive to the idea that this may bring about even more tensions between organizations because of the forced pretend support. So, the organizations trying to rid college campuses of the clubs based on sexual preference need to stop and think about what other clubs they could be doing damage to first. Student-led pro homosexual groups, called gay alliances, are an on-growing  disturbance and are inappropriate to have in school. For example, gay extremists are pressuring the Trustees board to oppose other minority clubs since theirs are currently being targeted. They are threatening to, take matters into their own hands if no one steps into do anything about this. This is a dilemma because one clubs being targeted is no excuse for them to be able to discriminate against others. After all, they are upset at being discriminated against. By continuing to single out groups unlike them, they are only welcoming more upon themselves. In addition, students attending Iowa Colleges who are offended by homosexual clubs and their behaviors, have voiced their comments and been completely disregarded. One student went to the board of education and stated that, clubs that promote and praise homosexuality make me feel uncomfortable as a student in this college (www.leaderu.com/marco). His comment was totally disregarded and never brought up again. That is disturbing because the only voices being heard are those which belong to the gay groups and that is not fair. It is also a problem because students who are paying for school are not being listened to and need to be in a time of controversy like this one. People need to think long and hard about whether or not they want their college kids subjected to homosexual clubs and/or organizations. The Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered group is a rapidly growing group across the country. They are fighting for the rights of Lesbians Gays Bisexuals and Trangendered people. For example, the LGBT have voiced their opinions loud and clear, We are just like everyone else and deserve clubs to prove it. The struggle of the LGBT has moved to center stage since 1994, they are fighting for their individual rights on campus as well as in the classroom. Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgendered group have caused quite a stir on college campuses and that is affecting all other students learning. They need to quit. The affect it is having on bi-stander students is neither fair nor appropriate. Furthermore, We are no different than all the other student who wander this campus. Said by James Anderson, a student in Colorado. Another students first question was, Then why do you need your own club on campus? Its the LGBT population saying things like that that get other students confused. Students who do not attend homosexual clubs are forced to watch rallies in the union about things they dont  completely understand and that is not fair to them. People who choose to attend college do not need to be subjected to this whole ordeal, it should be fought somewhere besides school campuses. Clubs that applaud sexual preference and behavior are unnecessary on public school campuses. These sexual preference based organizations only cause strife and confusion for students. Since these clubs are only applicable to a small minority population of students, they are hard to support and condone; this causes tense situations.

World Wide Market Essay -- Globalization

Few causes can unite agriculture corporations, labour unions, and industrial lobbies, but anti-globalization is one of them. Economic globalization is the process of creating one world wide market through freer trade, flow of labour, and flow of capital. It is a phenomenon inseparable from today' economy, and is a trend that will continue for the foreseeable future. There is much discussion in the academic community about the political ramifications of economic globalization. However, I will be solely discussing the economic aspects of globalization and how it effects the prosperity and living standards of people around the world. Though the current international economy faces many challenges, the idea of trade liberalization is superior to its alternatives. Economic globalization improves the world and is ultimately good. By integrating markets, globalization generates economic growth by fostering efficiency and specialization. In addition, globalization uplifts those in poverty and creates more technologically advanced societies. Moreover, many of the problems associated with the process of economic globalization can be solve through adjustments in how trade liberalization occurs. Ultimately, the gains of economic globalization far outweigh the costs. The integration of economies benefits all those involved as larger markets ultimately create greater growth and efficiency – an assertion that is grounded in both theory and practical experience. Economic theory states that larger markets are more efficient by nature because they allow for the realization of greater economies of scale. Furthermore, the free trade brought on by economic globalization allows countries to specialize and exercise their comparative advantage – ra... ...better. Works Cited Bhagwati, Jaghish. Performance Management Systems

Performance Management System Sparrow and Hiltrop (1994) suggest that â€Å"performance management is essentially a strategic management technique that links business objectives and strategies to individual goals, actions, performance appraisal and rewards through a defined process. † They also believe that â€Å"the most important feature of an effective performance management system is its ability to be seen as a method of continuously securing improvement’s in the performance of teams and individuals against pre-defined business strategies and objectives. From reading through the quotes of Sparrow and Hiltrop I understand performance management to be a system which identifies the strengths and weaknesses of individuals or teams of employees. From then speaking to the employees in a formal manner, in which you are praising them for their achievements throughout the year i. e. promotion, raise or a company car, but also explaining to them where they could improve them selves to be motivated in following the objectives and strategic plans of the company.Job performance within management performance reveals several terms that are often used interchangeably, such as performance appraisal, performance assessment, performance evaluation and job appraisal. However, in general terms, they are regularly all concerned with measuring an individual’s performance in a given job against preset work standards and involve designing a formal system to facilitate observation, monitoring, analysis, feedback and target setting. Since of late I have had my own performance appraisal done in my part time job in a large fast food restaurant I will be constructing my essay around performance appraisal. In my essay I will be looking at how performance appraisals help improve motivation within the work force, I will explain how the system operates currently, provide evidence that base criticism of the system, and suggest practical and implementable improvements. His tory Its roots started in the early 20th century; it can be linked to Taylor’s scientific management theory. Taylor thought that workers should be paid and rewarded by meeting specific work targets. If the workers met these targets, he would then pay his workers fairly for the tasks and goals met.He would also give regular feedback to his workers. This point ties in with performance appraisal, by Taylor rewarding and giving feedback to his workers he was demonstrating how if workers did well they would be rewarded for their efforts. Also by giving his workers feedback he was showing how the task could be better or to the correct standard. Taylor also believed that workers should be trained and developed, which is also relevant to today’s role of performance appraisal. However Taylor assumed the way of thinking like an autocratic manager, where he thought workers where only motivated by money. But as performance appraisal has expanded and grown with time, it has seen tha t workers are not just motivated by money. Performance appraisals started out as being a simple method of income justification. Appraisals were used to decide whether or not the salary or wage of an individual employee was justified. If the employee’s performance was found to be unsatisfactory then the employees’ wages would be cut. However, on the other hand if the employees work was found to exceed the manager’s expectations, then the employee would find him/herself with a pay rise.Very little consideration was given to developing the employees’ skills and talents in the work place. It was seen that a cut or rise in pay was good enough for the employee to work harder or keep working hard. More often or not this system failed. Motivational research showed that workers with evenly the same work abilities could be paid the same but one individual’s motivational principles could be completely different to someone else’s. Pay rates are importan t to workers but it is not the only characteristic that influences an employee’s performance.By the research discovered once employee’s where financially safe workers would then look for morale and self-esteem to motivate them. I associate this research finding with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Once a worker knows that they are physiologically safe, they then start to move up the pyramid, they would realize that money does not influence them to be motivated to work hard at work anymore. Instead they will look to be socially accepted in the company and that their hard work is valued and recognized within the company. When a worker has been with a company after a length of time and has been rewarded with rises in pay, they will then look to getting promotions and move higher up in the company. Present Appraisals Once managers recognized that workers were not motivated by money anymore, they realized things had to change. So in today’s working environment, th ere can be five key steps to setting up a performance appraisal. * Develop an appraisal form. * Identify performance measures. * Set guidelines for feedback. Create disciplinary and termination procedures. * Set an appraisal schedule. Developing an appraisal form Appraisals should be done justly, consistently and accurately to protect the employees’ interests and to protect your company from legal liability. A way to ensure consistency is to use a standard appraisals form for each worker. The form used should focus only on the essential job performance areas. This makes the appraisal more meaningful and relevant and allows the appraiser and the appraised address the issues that matter most. The job performance areas that should be included on the performance appraisal form are job knowledge and skill, quantity of work, quality of work, work habits and attitude to others and communication skills. In each area, the appraiser should have a range of descriptors to choose from i. e . very bad, bad, good, very good and excellent. Depending on how specific the descriptors are, it is often important that the appraiser also have extra space included on the form to provide their thoughts behind his or her rating. Identifying performance measuresIdentifying and developing performance measures can be one of the more time-consuming parts of creating a performance appraisal system however; it is one of the most powerful. Standard performance measures objectively measures some of the more subjective job performance areas, such as work habits. The appraiser can establish an objective measure for attendance by defining the acceptable number of times an employee can be late for work or absent during a certain time frame. Standard performance measures don’t always work for other subjective areas, such as attitude. In these cases, it’s still important to be as objective as possible in your appraisal. Don’t attempt to describe attitude, instead, describe t he employee’s behavior, which is what expresses the attitude, and the consequences of that behavior for the practice. For example this employee has failed to support his/her co-workers. When another member of his/her department is absent, he/she refuses to take on the additional tasks required to process patients in a timely manner. This behavior causes patient backlog, places a burden on staff and compromises effective teamwork.Managers should work with their employees in each position to gather quantitative data, examine historical patterns of volume and determine qualitative measurements that reflect the company’s mission and goals. Setting guidelines for feedback Feedback is what performance appraisals are all about. So before human resource management, implement the performance appraisal system, make sure that all the managers that will be conducting appraisals knows what kind of feedback to give, how to give it and how to get it from the employee in return. Many m anagers make the common error of glossing over an employee’s deficiencies and focusing only on his/her strengths. It is by explaining their weaknesses that employees can take ownership of their performance and role in the practice. And when given the support they need to make improvements in these areas, employees learn to take pride in their work and are willing to take on new tasks with confidence. After the appraiser has discussed the results of the appraisal with the employee, the appraiser should encourage the employee to give some constructive feedback. They should ask the employee whether he/ she agree with their assessment, and/or invite suggestions for improvement. In my appraisal, I was told that I was doing a good job but also where I could improve. The company is also thinking of sending me on a one day course to gain some more skills, for me to improve in my job. Creating a disciplinary and termination procedures In some cases, even after a thorough performance ap praisal and a discussion of expected improvements, an employee will continue to perform poorly.Human resources need to be prepared to handle such a situation by having well-defined, written disciplinary and termination procedures in place. These procedures should outline the actions that will be taken when performance worsens. In most cases companies will firstly proceed with a verbal warning. If the employee still performs badly a written warning is then issued. If there is no improvement or a recurrence, then termination is the situation if not ultimately resolved. Setting an appraisal scheduleOnce human resource management has built their performance appraisal system – the appraisal form, the performance measures, the feedback guidelines and the disciplinary procedures – they just need to decide when to conduct the performance appraisals. Some practices do all employee appraisals at the same time of year, while others conduct them within 30 days of each employeeâ₠¬â„¢s anniversary of employment. In my opinion the latter may work better since it spreads the work of the appraisals out for employer and employee. Whichever way they decide to schedule the appraisals, they must ensure that each appraiser consistently meets the deadline.Ignoring employees’ overdue appraisal will make them feel devalued and may hurt morale and performance. For me my performance appraisal was a week after my anniversary of starting in the restaurant. This is the easiest way for this company as so many people work there. From my own experience my appraisal was not a formal event. I was told when I came into work that my manager wanted to see me, which made me feel anxious and worried. It was informal and very relaxed. In this instance I would criticize the way the appraisal was held.In researching for this topic performance appraisals should be formal and official. Since I was offered the chance to go one the course, it made me very confident that I was doing a good job. It motivated me to work harder for the company. From working a year in the company people will notice who is doing a good job and who maybe not, especially when the boss is gone. My suggestion would be that employee’s confidentially review their co-workers using the appraisal forms. However this will only work is people are not too nasty and use this against their co-worker. .

Ghost Story Essay

Examinations are tests for evaluating a student’s knowledge. The present system of education ignores the student’s individual skills and intelligence. Parents and teachers judge a student’s potential through examinations. The Indian system of education is based on the pattern set up by the British. Nothing much is taught beyond the syllabus and only examinations determine the degree or grade of a student. Various Commission, which were set up to improve this system recommended practical training and periodical tests. Cheating, leaking of question papers and other corrupt practices, that have cropped up in the examination system should be checked. the aim of education should be to equip the student to face the tough battle of life. Examinations aim at judging a student’s knowledge in a specific time frame and in analyzing whether the student has gone through a certain course of study satisfactorily. Tests enable the teacher to know how well the student has understood the subject. A good result makes the teacher as well as the parents happy. The effort of the teacher is rewarded when a student passes an examination and vice versa. Thus, a teacher’s dedication towards his profession is judged through examination. Examinations help the parents to assess their child’s capability. Parents become proud of their children when they perform well in the examinations. Students become alert when examinations are at their door step. They utilize their time for preparation. Examinations make them work hard for scoring good marks. Some schools award citations and certificate and give scholarships to those students who excel. Such awards prompt the students to work hard. Examinations help the teachers and the parents in analyzing the amount of labor put in by the students in gaining knowledge. Teaching is always followed by tests because the tests give an impression as to how well the students have understood the subject. A good result helps the teacher feel relieved at his success in imparting education to his pupils while a bad result indicates that there is a need of more effort on the teacher’s part. Thus, examinations are also a means of judging a teacher’s dedication towards his profession. With the help of the result of examinations parents can make the right assessment of their child’ caliber. If he is weak in his studies, they could guide him further in the subject. f his performance is up to the satisfaction of his parents, they would be proud of him. However, there are certain flaws in the examination system. The system of education in India is based on the pattern set up by the British. The knowledge imparted is restricted to the syllabus. Students are taught according to the prescribed syllabus. Nothing much is taught beyond the syllabus. When a student is unable to gasp a particular subject, the seeks private tuitions or enrolls himself in a coaching institute. Students tend to learn their subjects by heart, without applying their mind. Thus, cramming enables many students to pass examinations. Most students look towards their examinations with an anxious mind. They, at a very young age, begin to feel the tension and stress of examinations. Examinations are just the first in a series of tests that initiate young ones into a competitive world. But the importance attached to them is unreasonably high. During the examination period and till the result is declared, not only the students but also their parents and tutors remain tensed. It is cast as a do-or-die battle. Students do not have enough spare time for games and are unable to give wings to their hobbies due to the burden of examinations. Failure in the examination arouses a felling of low self esteem and negative self-image in the minds of the students. At times, students break down under pressure to perform and resort to extreme measures like running away from their homes or even committing suicide. Today school psychologists or school counselors give them proper advice to increase the efficiency of learning in schools and handle to pressure of examination. A positive mental state can improve one’s chances of success. Leakage of question papers, copying and cheating in examination halls have become a common affair. Bribery and other corrupt practices also have crept into the examination system. Even some of the teachers check the examination papers without assessing them properly, as a result of which students suffers. Examinations give a degree or a grade to the student. The prevailing system of education does not help the students to make their career in life or to earn a decent living. The youth who fails to get the desired percentage of marks suffer the most. In order to overcome the shortcomings present in our educational system, many Education Commissions were set up from time to time to suggest changes in the pattern. Action on their suggestions Central Board of Secondary Education and other State Boards of Secondary Education decided to introduce a separate steam of vocational education. According to Educational experts, ongoing evaluation is more effective than board examinations. They have recommended that Class X examinations be made mandatory only for those who want to opt out of formal education. Further, it has been suggested that class XII examination be staggered over a two-year period. They have recommended the need for a new pattern which would impart education thought training. Educational experts feel that the educational system being obsolete and redundant is not serving the purpose of educating the youth. They have felt the need to evaluate a student’s performance during the whole year. This could make the examination system more acceptable. According to the new method adopted by many public schools, examinations would remain a part and parcel of the education system. However, periodic tests will be held at regular intervals. The syllabus would include practice exercise at the end of each lesson. This will help the student in grasping the subject matter properly. The aim of education should be to equip the student for the tough battle of life, build his character and personality, widen his sphere of knowledge and qualify him for employment. The student should not only be taught lessons from books but also lessons from practical life. The educational system should not only be theoretical and academic but also give practical knowledge. Students should not be encouraged for rote learning. Projects and term papers may encourage an engagement with the subject matter and are more likely to add sum and substance to a student’s knowledge base. When History, Geography and Maths are reduced to mere digits on a mark sheet, they cease to inspire, give joy, or nurture the faculty of inquiry. Nevertheless, the system of examination, prevalent for centuries, cannot be changed overnight. It will take some time to change the system. While this transition take place, the corrupt practices, cheating and leakage of question papers related to examinations should be checked. Parents should not make their love conditional to the performance of their children in the examinations. Their expectation level should be reasonable. With this and with the revised system of education, examination will prove beneficial for the students. Good health is a boon. It is the real jewel of life, the most precious possession of man. If a man losses his health, the world losses all it § charms for him. A good wealth of health can be obtained in a number of ways. It needs regular exercise, good food, good thoughts, and cleanliness. A healthy person does not spend money on medicines and visiting doctors. Just opposite, a sluggish person is another form of hell of diseases. The simplest and most traditional definition of health is that it is the freedom of sickness and diseases. According to World Health Organisation (WHO), a branch of the United Nations, health is physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease. Next to life itself, good health is the most precious gift and is necessary for a purposeful existence. ‘Sound mind in a sound body’ is an old saying. Healthy persons can work for long hours without getting tired. They can enjoy all the pleasures of life, whereas unhealthy pe rsons can’t. The world has no charm for them. They are always worried due to their physical complications. Wealth has no importance for them. To keep good health no money is needed. It can be achieved only through our efforts and proper health care. We can maintain good health only if we are aware of various factors which affect our health. There are certain things which are essential for keeping our body free from diseases. Nutritious food comes first. We should takeVpnly that food which has nutritious value. Some regularity in life is also important for good health. We should get up early in the morning, go out for a walk, breathe in fresh air to keep our lungs clean and in good order, and take brisk walk, move arms while walking. Maintaining clean habits is also important in this regard. If we don’t take bath regularly, don’t wear clean clothes, don’t eat fresh food, we may develop physical complications in the long run. Hence regularities, good habits and cleanliness have great value in maintaining good health. Balancing sleep and rest are also useful in this regard. We know that a great deal of the waste matter in our bodies escaped by means of the skin, which contains many millions of tiny drainpipes called ‘pores’. If we neglect keeping our bodies clean, these pores get choked up and the waste matter cannot escape. Hence we must keep this important point in our mind and do accordingly. Laughter is the best medicine of good health. So, we should keep calm by overcoming anger, greed, fear, envy and enmity. Life of a healthy man is his long lasting wealth. It makes him able to enjoy life to the full. Those who are wealthy may not always be healthy but the healthy people are always wealthy. Sayings about health and wealth have been noted throughout time. Benjamin Franklin was quoted as saying, â€Å"Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.† This has been a popular saying for centuries. The saying health is wealth may also inspire the belief that without good health, a wealthy man cannot fully enjoy his riches. Conversely, a healthy individual has the potential to achieve his goals. An individual in excellent health may have the ability to become wealthy, but a person who is ailing may never have the opportunity to bring his dreams to life. When a quote or saying becomes widely used and extremely popular, it generally tends to be passed on throughout the years. Health is wealth is one of those sayings that has remained popular for many years. In the study of language and humanities, the common phrase health is wealth can be classified as a mainstay expression. Quotes have been coined from many philosophers and authors throughout history. Health is wealth may be known as a phrase, a saying, or an expression. Another saying or expression that has similar meaning is â€Å"When you have your health, you have everything.† This saying means that the healthy individual is extremely wealthy in a fundamental way.

Guide to Teaching a Home Schooler to Love to Write

Guide to Teaching a Home Schooler to Love to Write Guide to Teaching a Home Schooler to Love to Write There is a trend rising around the globe, and it is homeschooling. While the increase of having your child sit at home, and getting them engaged in their studies is something many parents were not prepared for, unless they were already educators, the need for suggestions on how to teach them what is necessary for them to pass the tests each school year is also on the rise. Math and science has become popular with home schoolers due to the games online that help them grow to love these subjects, but writing seems to get students in a grumpy mood. Parents hear, â€Å"I hate to write, I hate to read, it’s so boring†. Parents, before you get frustrated and just give them the math and science homework instead of writing work, consider this: When our children practice their handwriting, it helps them develop their coordination Their reading skills increase Their spelling skills increase When they are fluid in handwriting skills, children learn to concentrate on task for longer periods of time Visual skills and motor skills are enhanced and they become better writers Writers are in high demand in workforce, and practicing now will help them study better in college So how do we get our kids engaged in literature and writing as much as they seem to love math and science? The first thing a home school educator must do is come up with an engaging writing curriculum specific to the age of the child. For Grades 1-4 When teaching this age group, we must keep in mind that their focus changes quickly. You can begin to peak their interest by asking them to write a simple list. Show them a list of your favorite things, and ask them to make a list of 5 of their favorite things. After their list is done, ask them to write 2 sentences telling you why each thing is important to them. The one thing that we know about this demographic is that are still very much self-centered by nature and always want to talk about what interests them. While teaching your kids to become writers, start developing a curriculum of how to teach them by buying books based on teaching kids to write. You can find many in your neighborhood library, or amazon.com is a low-cost place to buy books. Picture Use Graphics are always on the walls of elementary schools. This is because children have great imaginations. Gather many pictures of animals, cartoon characters, and even their favorite video game characters. You can type them into any search engine then click images, and they will pop up. Hang them near you homeschooled child at the beginning of the lesson and start a sentence about the picture and instruct your child to write a short story to go along with your sentence. Make sure you have many picture books on hand for your child and try these tips: After lunch sit with your child and read a book to them, if they already know how to read, ask that they read a paragraph then you read one. Reading encourages writing. When coming across words that your child struggles with, write it down or highlight it in the book. (only if you own the book, do not write in Library books) When you are done, go over the words that your child had trouble with and ask that they write a sentence for each of the words. Have your child create flash cards with color markers, putting words on one side and the name of the book they came out of on the other side. The next day, let them choose the book they want to read after lunch. Start a book shelf close to the area where your child is homeschooling. Parents, keep in mind that you are teaching the child to love to write, and this means giving them something they love to read. Sometimes this may mean changing location in the home also. No Distractions Please Being homeschooled can be a challenge because you are in the comfort of your home and we are used to turning on the television, the radio, answering the telephone, the door etc. While your little angel is trying to write their sentences, do not get distracted by phone calls or anything else. Kids will do what they see you do and if you allow for distractions while schooling is going on, you will inevitably have to begin again and again. One suggestion that we have found helpful, is changing the location of where you teach your child. If the living room is where you all usually watch your favorite shows or entertain guests. Don’t teach there. If the child’s room has their games, television etc. you may not want to leave them in there to study. Create an office space, or use your home office as the place that studies take place. Nature Teaches Us If it is a beautiful day, to encourage writing about the neighborhood, take a walk to the nearby park, you can practice writing in sand or with a stick in the dirt, or go to the library and have a lesson there. Take a car ride to the country, a day trip, much like they do in secular schools. Stop at a new place that you have never been, and pull out paper and writing tools and ask that your child create a story about where they are and what they see, but the story must be about: The smallest person on the planet Leaving the planet If everything was blue (or any color you choose) What they would do if they were lost in the middle of the woods Their tennis shoes, if they were magic If the car was a plane, where would you both go What happened when it began to rain? How many things they can think of that are in your house What they would do if cupcakes began to fall from the sky that could talk This exercise should take about 25 minutes or less and if they do not finish, keep that notebook in the car when you get back home. That notebook is now the car-story book and will be used when you go out. Middle Schoolers When you must teach middle-school kids how to develop an essay, you as a parent may need help in this area. Before you teach this subject, get in touch with a professional writing service that can help with your essays. Websites like this can give you feedback on an essay that you write and send to them, or they can write a professional essay and send it to you fully structured so you can use it as a guide. Sample essays are always good to have around when it comes to writing. Not only for your child, but for you to get good at your writing also. Middle schoolers are harder to keep engaged than little ones, they think they are too sophisticated for their parents when it comes to things like technology. We suggest that technology like their phones be off limits, unless they are used for writing. Many times, if we offer time on the computer or on their phones in exchange for writing a story, this works wonders for middle schoolers, no matter how much they hate writing. Some of the subjects that interests them are: Their favorite star (music, sports, television) Have them research someone they admire and write 2 paragraphs about them Jobs. Middle schoolers are interested in making their own money, tell them to write about their dream job and what they would do with their first paycheck. If they could go to any school in the country or the world, where would they go (this will give you an idea whether their mind is on college) Switching Roles Pick a day out of the week where you the parent becomes the student. Have your middle schooler create a lesson plan for you to carry out. They will spend up to 1-hour writing out what they want you to accomplish for your writing lesson. They will be testing you on grammar and developing an essay for you to write. This task will get their writing lesson in and they won’t even think they are doing work. It will all be about teaching you not them. Tell them to create a spelling word list for the following week and they must test you on your spelling list. If they are having trouble, be prepared to give them websites to find lists of words where they can do their research for you. Not only will this be fun, they will ask to do this again and again. Let them know that you love their teaching style and that you look forward to the days that they get to teach you. Writing Letters and With Others We as parents that homeschool must remember that writing just for us can become a bit boring for kids. Here are a few tips that can give your writing lessons new spark: Start a play date that invites other homeschoolers and their parents over to read aloud each other’s short stories Find a pen-pal site and write to people from other countries and read their letters aloud. Don’t wait for the holidays to write to Grandparents, write them just to say you miss them. Ask the local library if they would give you space to have poetry readings once a month, and get other parents that homeschool involved in participating. Develop cliff hanger stories that you pass around to your neighbors to finish. Start at the house on the block with something that goes like this. Today when the lights went out all over town†¦, then the next house gets to fill in a couple of sentences until it is a full story. Substitute the Writing Creative writing, and writing in general can be exciting and beneficial to all students, but to those that hate to write, it may take genuine effort to just get out one sentence. There are other projects that you can get you child interested in and still get them practicing their writing. For instance: Find a word puzzles (offer prizes for most words found) Creating their own crossword puzzles Use pictures to fill in word blanks instead of writing them in Create a list of rhyming words and then write a poem for them to recite out loud Tell them to use each letter in their names to come up with funny words that rhyme Hide word cards around the house and have a scavenger hunt to find them. When found, each word must be yelled out, and they must replace a card around the house for your turn to find. (Parent participation is so important in helping the child that does not like to write) When it is time to do the food shopping, get your child to sit down and write down what you call out that the house needs. Eggs, cheese, bread, etc. then tell them to write down some of their favorites on the list also. At the market, they will be reading the list back to you as you get the things from the shelves. You are on your way to helping your student learn to love writing. The more they read, the more prone they are to become good writers. At the end of every month, there should be an essay written.   Start with one page, and by the end of the homeschool semester they should be writing at least 3 pages of text. For younger children, include pictures that they can draw along with their stories. With these and other tips that are online for homeschooling parents, you will succeed in giving your child the best homeschool experience that you can give. Good luck!

AIDS :: Free AIDS Essays

Michelle Lee Pelletier & Sarah Smith December, 16, 1998 Mr. Marquis Honors Chemistry Aids A.I.D.S is an epidemic of the nineties. There are over one million people infected with the HIV in the United States, and over 250,000 cases of Aids. The World Health Organization estimates that there are between five and ten million infected with the H.I.V virus. This number is rising steadily. A.I.D.S is the end result of H.I.V, and to this day there is no cure. H.I.V was discovered in 1981, but not until 1984 was it proven to be the cause of A.I.D.S. Since then the definition of A.I.D.S. has changed many times, and will no doubt keep changing. And as people learn more about it, they seek out a cure. Scientist have been working hard on a cure for more than a decade. They have come up with many pill "cocktails" or other forms of medications, but so far the cure is still far away. People with A.I.D.S/HIV are running out of time, yet it seems that there is sadly till a lot of ignorance and misunderstanding of the disease, and without understanding a cure is pushed farther aw ay. Stealing a chance of survival from another person. The myths and truths need to be sorted out, a cure must be found, and the disease itself must be contained. The HIV virus was discovered in 1981. Compared to many other diseases that have had a relatively huge impact on mankind, it is relatively new. Cancers and so forth have been here since man. HIV was not connected to Aids, or proven to be the cause until 1984. Since The discovery it has gone through many changes, and many names. HIV was formally known as Lymphadenopathy-associated virus (lAV), Human T-Cell lymotropic virus type III (HTLV III). It is relatively new, which means that both AIDS and HIV are subjected to much change through the new few decades, we may know a significant amount about it at this time, but new information is learned everyday. The information behind the cause of Aids is inconclusive. Though it has been said the first case from a monkey in Africa, this may not be the story, but man did get the virus from monkeys. How they got it from the monkey is another thing. Perhaps the "monkey" (which is immune to the virus, which is believed to be because the mon key doesn't have co-receptors on it's white blood cells) had bleeding gums or had a higher content of HIV in its blood system.

Deontological ethics Essay

Utilitarianism ethics accentuates that the activity that should be ethically beneficial to the group. In further terms, the outcome of any moral activity ought to be valuable for all by mass offer. This is a universal fundamental theme for ethics in industrialist economies and business as well as in all governments. Virtue Theory is also known as virtue ethics focal point on the person’s character as opposed to the standards and outcomes of the particular acts. This fundamentally means that the prime focus is endured or not to the person who acting ethically is a person who upholds the high virtues and morals, in expressing the good character in people. , plan, results and conclusion are not so much immaterial; nonetheless, the significance of virtue theory is first and foremost. Dissimilar to virtue theory, deontology has a substantial accentuation on obligation in activity, in adherence to runs the show. The right activity is essential here, whereupon fruition, ought to achieve the best useful for all included. This is to some degree like utilitarianism, which does concentrate on the result of the best great. Be that as it may, deontology does not incline toward the result itself, yet all the more so the guideline behind submitting the right activity. The moral behind deontology is about rule and after tenets. Every one of the three of these ethical practices has substantial likenesses. The essential comparability is outcome of activity. Despite the fact that result is not generally the essential center of the activity, it is normal in every one of the three theories that the outcome ought to have a gainful come about as a conclusion of the activity. Whether the activity is focused around rule, qualities or ethics, the end sought to legitimize the methods. The most ideal approach to express the contrasts between virtue theory, utilitarianism and deontological ethics is to take a typical situation and examine from these three alternate points of ETHICS ESSAY 3 view. A person who polishes good virtual ethics would call attention to that by helping the individual, doing so would be a magnanimous demonstration and would express great character of the individual supporting the one in need. One who practices utilitarianism would say that by helping the individual, doing so would be useful for both the individual in need and the individual making a difference. A deontologist would say that by helping, it would be so in agreement to an ethical tenet, for example, karma, or what you do to others will return to you. As the illustration shows, virtue theory concentrates on an individual’s ethical morals, and not on any particular conclusion or guideline. Utilitarianism has a stress on more prominent else’s benefit, concentrating on an advantageous conclusion for all persons included, where the results of acting are useful to a group. At long last, deontology stresses obligation as the particular activity being carried out in fulfillment of emulating a particular good code, governor charge. In past role as a sales/inventory associate for Centennial wireless. A problem with ethical decisions came up on a daily basis on the job. On a daily basis, I had to do the daily deposits and check each associate cash drawer that always had 100. 00 dollars in them at all times. Multiple times a sales rep had over their cash drawer or short. If they were short, they had to place the cash that was short to equal 100. 00 dollars or if they were over they had to deposit the average. When I check their bags, I gave them a warning they had till business hours to replace that money or just to deposit it. I keep the record for my records, and if it happens regular basis, I get the manager involve. The reason I keep the information to myself is because a sale person can give too much change to a customer and does know till I or they count their cash drawers at the end of their shift. So I understand mistakes can happen. My decision on this issue is based on the utilitarianism theory that looks for the best outcome for everyone within a particular situation. ETHICS ESSAY 4 In conclusion, one can addition further understanding into ethical and social obligation by analyzing the similitude and contrasts between utilitarianism, virtue theory and deontological ethics. Through further understanding of these similitude and contrasts one can start to understand the criticalness social and ethics obligation plays in particular and business achievement. The previous examination portrays the contrasts in how every theory addresses morality and ethics. The dissection likewise incorporates a particular experience clarifying the relationship between temperance, qualities, and good ideas as they identify with one of the three speculations. Besides, the examination clarifies how the data on social and ethics obligation achievement or disappointment, contingent upon the execution of the learning one addition from the information and the choices one makes. Burnout Paper

Having a good job and supporting your family is one if the best things in life. Nowadays jobs are so demanding and they require a lot of time apart from your loves ones. Many of us love the fact that we can provide for our families, but there are times when the job life can become overwhelming and stressful causing the individual to burnout. The following paper will address issues and preventions methods of â€Å"burnout† and what precautions one should take. Also I will discuss the identifiable phrases that can be adapted in order to deal with burnout. Burnout has the same characteristics as depression and it can be easily misinterpreted. Burnout is actually exhaustion of work related stresses caused over time that can affect the personal goals related to their job. Although we may not necessary notice it right away it can creep up on you and you may not know. Other factors can contribute to burnout can come from the outside such as personal life, other responsibilities at home with families and even stressful events. Many of us experience bad days at work, feeling unappreciated, disconnected ourselves from co-workers and family members, and even lost focus on our goals. These are factors to burnout that should be addressed immediately. Individual factors that can cause burnout are fairly significant and naked to the eye. Burnout is not always displayed right away and it could take some time to be noticed by you or someone else. A person’s life style plays a role because the person may have little balance and lots of work. A person who works all week pulling in more work hours may not have down time for themselves. Individuals should continue with their regular hobbies and devote some time to exercising and their personal life. Burnout can affect everyone on the job, even cultural workers. It can be very hard for someone of culture because we may expect too much from them, or even it may difficult for them to keep up with work. Cultural workers may be absent more often at work to avoid stress issues from other co-workers that can factor burnout. Sometimes burnout has an organizational cause. In today’s organizations, everyone is doing more work in less time, and then the pressure starts to build up. Low value work, flawed work processes, or excessive performance expectations also contribute to negative stress, which, if unresolved, can lead to burnout. Some of the common organizational causes of burnout includes the fast pace of work in general (if your work has a global component), increased demand for information and communication, driven by technologies such as e-mail, instant messaging, and PDAs an downsizing, restructuring, or change in priorities that calls for extra demands on the employees. A work environment that changes frequently also can causes the supervisors to burn out, factors such as frequent changes in policies and procedures , changes in the organizations vision, and changes in staff are all contributions to burnout. Communication can help the individuals to cope with burnout as it is linked to social support. Social support is better because it gives you less burnout and it tends to make individual feels that they are loved and cared for. There are six categories of social support (technical support, emotional support, emotional challenge, listening, technical challenge and sharing social reality) in which they all help to identify some sort of communication and mutual obligation (Cruikshank, 2011). Burnout can come from many different factors and in order to prevent it, you must look at all the concerns associated around it. A way that individuals can cope with burnout is to ask for help and support from your supervisor. Communicating your issues and problems will make your job less stressful, which can prevent burnout. Another way is re-vamp the work flow or processes the department uses. For example, if you have more work and less people, you may have to change how the work is distributed. Maybe temporary help can be an option to handle the workload. Setting boundaries is always helpful. When approached by a difficult task or situation, don’t give in to it, review the importance of the situation then take time to make the necessary decisions. This can prevent mistakes in the long run that can potentially lead to burnout. If you are a person that fairly gets along with everyone as I am, I would prefer management-training programs that may help with specific needs. If the concerns are more related to behavior problems, then this could cause changes or pressures in the organization. Some ways that can reduce stress is to seek programs that focus on building personal effectiveness, such as time management, delegation, dealing with difficult employees, or adjusting to corporate change. Another way to reduce the effects of burnout is to seek employee assistance. Many organizations have employee assistance programs (EAP) that can provide stress-management resources (Scott, 2001). As a human service manager you must be able to handle difficult situations at any given time. To assist staff with staff burnout many tools can be put into place to help overcome this barrier. One is prevention. Help staff to prevent burnout by distributing the work evenly, in case of an absence, use a back-up worker instead of waiting on that person’s return. Another prevention method is to provide classes and educational materials on a quarterly basis. In conclusion, it is much easier on the staff and supervisors when you have support in the organization. Taking advantage of all related work programs and classes will become handy in the long run. The focus is to balance your needs against those in the organization and make the necessary changes when those issues of burnout arise. The more you manage stress in your daily life, including work and personal, the less chance you will have to burnout. The more positive you are with your goals in life, you can become more productive and motivated by what you do, not only in the workplace but in your personal life as well.
